Big Handsome Trophy—500 Grand—Delaware Park!

By Barbara Rogers

Did I get your attention? This is something special, this marathon of events at Delaware Park. Primo event after event, spanning over a time period that should allow players plenty of action to choose from, there is still plenty of time for you to get there. It didn’t take long for the professionalism of the staff, headed by Kevin Castora, making the move from the West Coast, to turn Delaware Park poker action’s into one of the top premier hot spots on the East Coast. And this ambitious schedule, (read it on this outside cover of Poker Player) is one of the many reasons why it happened.
Delaware Park Poker Classic will continue right up to May 28th. Over 1 million in guaranteed prize money has created quite a buzz in the poker rooms. Everywhere I’ve played, I’ve spoken with plenty of players that have already made arrangements to be there. This includes quite a few poker room employees, from dealers to managers in nearby states. Note when you review the schedule, just how many times Delaware Park has added $1,100 to generously sweeten the pot of the satellite’s. With a long list of impressive payouts, the main event is offering a whopping FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR guarantee! Day 1A will be Sat. May 25th at 11am, Day 1B will be Sunday, 26th at 11am. Sixty thousand in starting chips will allow for solid poker playing. You should get your money’s worth in playing time, seeing a raft of hands.

It’s ALMOST HEAVEN West Virginia... At Hollywood Casino

By Barbara Rogers

I got beat up a little bit, but I sure enjoyed myself in West Virginia, playing Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races. One of my poker buddies made the trip with me, he couldn’t stay away from the cash action. It went full speed all night long. Packed room at any hour, Jeff can’t wait to go back. As for me, I couldn’t get enough of the tournament action. And that included re-buys to stay in the game. The pay-outs made this worthwhile to me.
The man in charge, Randy Keifer, had an excellent turnout when it became his turn to host the regional Hollywood Poker Open. Masterfully handled, Randy made sure everything ran as smooth as silk.

Poker East and a Little West of the Mississippi

by Barbara Rogers

Dover Downs in Delaware wants to help you make your way to Las Vegas this July to see if you can become POKER PLAYER OF THE YEAR. It can happen for you by playing in the satellite that poker room manager, Pete McGuire, has arranged. This will happen on June 9th in the Crown Royal room at Dover Downs. More details later, but for now, write that date in your poker calendar and thank me when you see me in Vegas at the Golden Nugget where it will be held. Here is another date to make note of: Saturday, May 11th at noon, Dover Downs offers up a $40,000 guaranteed tournament. The buy-in is only $199. And you may re-enter or late enter until 2 pm. Top 20 spots will be paid, with first place taking down $20,000. This NLH buy-in is only $199.

Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus, Minnesota (the popular poker room near the Twin Cities) is also bringing you a chance to win a seat at the Poker Player of the Year Tournament in Las Vegas, being held on July 4th at the Golden Nugget. June 16th at 10am for only $125 will be your chance to win it. Running Aces does something very nice for their new players. They have a “learners table” with understanding dealers and low limit betting. This provides an opportunity for beginners learning the game to do so with minimum risk. Licensed massage therapists provide daily massage service tableside, another considerate feature.

Bust A Champ Bounty Tournament welcomes the above three Delaware Park Classic winners back. The champs from 2011, 2012, and 2013 will each wear a $500 bounty on top of their crown. YOU, if you are up to the challenge, could KO them, collecting your cold hard cash, as well as perhaps winning some of the tournament payout money. With only $100 of the $350+$38+$12 staff bonus going toward the bounty, this means the tournament pay-out should be very nice. The date is Saturday, April 20th at 12 pm and it is No Limit Hold’em. Use your players card at the Red Roof Wilmington for a poker room discount, telephone 302 292 2870.

It’s Official: Delaware Park Did It: World Record for the Longest Continuous Poker Tournament!

By Barbara Rogers

History was made at Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington, with the announcement from the Guinness World Record officials confirming the world record for the “Longest Continuous Poker Tournament”. This was their second attempt at setting the record. Delaware Park’s 2012 Ironman Poker Challenge began on Saturday, August 25th, at noon. The tournament concluded after 36 hours 34 minutes, and 11 seconds. This feat of endurance ran without breaks, with a total of 192 participants. Three of the players were still standing, or actually slouched in their seats when the thirty-six hour mark was eclipsed. The prize pool totaled an impressive $100,608. It took a tough guy from the Czech Republic, Pete Konas to make it to the end. He was rewarded with the title, and $27,160.
