Entertainment Report

Magic has always been a major part of the entertainment scene in Las Vegas and no-one has had more success than Lance Burton who is now in his thirteenth year performing at the Monte Carlo in a theater named for him. I saw his show the other night for the first time in more than a year, and though it was a weeknight, the place was packed and the show ended with a well-deserved standing O.

You would think that putting on a show almost nightly for more than 10 years would get a little tiring, a little stale, but Burton has been able to keep his show fresh and his enthusiasm high.

One of the longest running shows in Las Vegas is Crazy Girls at the Riviera, despite heavy competition not only from other hotel-casinos, but from the town's strip joints.

One of the reasons are the girls themselves-all gorgeous and with a good sense of humor. The show is not only very sexy, but fun as well.

Cheryl, a 5-foot, 6-inch blue-eyed blonde joined the cast in 2005 after moving to Las Vegas from Denver.

Entertainment Report: Ricci Martin

When you're the son of one of the most popular and loved singers in the world, it can be a tough road if you decide to follow in his footsteps. But according to Ricci Martin, "It is more difficult because people compare you and you're never going to overshadow your father-let's face it, there's only one Dean Martin. So it would be absurd to try and compare me to my dad. He was an impossible act to follow, not only for his talent, but because dad was so revered and so loved by so many, it has always made it easier for me. I truly fashioned myself after my dad because I really admired him.

Crazy Girls at the Riviera

One of the longest running shows in Las Vegas is Crazy Girls at the Riviera. I don't know how crazy they are, but they sure as hell are gorgeous, and that includes Lizzie Grantham, the Memphis native who moved to Las Vegas at the age of 12 with her parents and eight siblings.

Talking to her the other day, I found out that she began dance training in Memphis at age 8 and it "... wasn't until I arrived in Las Vegas that I got serious about dance. I learned a lot about choreography at the Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts where I attended high school and was a dance major."

If you grew up in the "50s you probably have a very warm spot in your heart and fond memories of entertainers of that generation. And nowhere can you see more of them than in Las Vegas. For instance, from April 11-13 Frankie Avalon will perform at the Suncoast in Las Vegas. I talked to Avalon this past week about his career.

It is said that if you don't use it, you'll lose it, something that one of America's most successful singer/songwriters has no intention of doing. Celebrating 50 years of performing, Neil Sedaka will take the stage at The Orleans March 6-9 and the thought of retiring hasn't even entered his mind.
