Senator Barry Goldwater, of Arizona, is considered the patriarch of the modern Republican Right, whose most successful disciples include Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. Bush, and George W. Bush.

Throughout the Vietnam War Era of the 1960s and '70s, much of the country embraced liberal politics and questioned traditional social attitudes. From the Civil Rights Movement to the Anti-War Movement, many Americans demanded change.

Senator Goldwater, whose unwavering allegiance to "Duty, Home, Country", emerged the Champion of Conservatism.

Poker in Canada: Eastern Canada

Last time, we learned that Canada residents don't have to pay a tax on winnings. The other interesting thing about gambling up north is that the minimum age is 19. As anyone can imagine, this can skew casino audiences toward the young side, especially when it comes to poker. Live poker used to be a mature audiences game, but the young crowd has latched on to the game in a big way.

Why do Tournament Players Initially Fail in a Live No Limit Hold em Ring Game?

One of the main reasons a tournament player will initially fail when he starts to play live no limit games is because his initial raises are too low given the average stack sizes of the players sitting in a game. Obviously a capped game plays more like a tournament. This is seen in a 2-5 game with a $200 cap as well as at some of the rooms in L.A. where the cap for a game can be quite low.

Hey Paul

So this guy Paul writes to me with grave doubts about his game. He's a low limit player of modest experience, and he thinks he's playing well, but he keeps getting his ass kicked in the fish pond that is low limit internet poker. Per Paul: I wait patiently to get my money in the best spot, play strong starting hands, and get completely wiped out by the fish across the table because he out draws me. I raise when I have my strong hands to better protect them against these types but it seems so futile. If it's suited, they call. If it's connected, they call.

Small Stakes Tournaments: Final Table Play

I wasn't quite sure what to make of a final table I was watching recently. There was one player absolutely running over the table-with his mouth. He was one of those off-the-wall guys who kept talking, talking, talking. Did he have bad poker etiquette?

Locket Caper Part 1: A Joe and Hobby Poker Fiction

After six hours in a cash poker game at the Bike, I was beat. "Thanks for waiting, Hobby. I could have taken a cab."

"I wanted to see how you'd do against the big boys, Joe."

"I'm taking home some of their money, but not enough to piss 'em off."

Among others at the table was Pete Francone, a high stakes poker player who is otherwise involved in the grey business world. I was in over my head, getting into a cash game with the likes of him, but I was suddenly flush after getting an unexpected royalty check for foreign book sales.
