How Much Does It Cost?

Some of the most simplistic forms of addressing the ills that plagues us as a people are applied without much thought. If you in fact have the type of job that involves a lot of standing, simply remove your shoes once you've entered the door and fling them in some far corner of the room - landing them safely in the closet is optional. The second step requires even less thought, put your feet up - again, gravity is good for healing purposes. The last step is somewhat tricky.

Baja Poker Run Part 1: A Joe and Hobby Fiction

At least once a week Hobby and I spend time together with our lady friends. This night it was Mexican food to be followed by dancing at a new West side club, but something was out of whack. Hobby and Sue were very quiet. Kim whispered to me, "Think they had a fight?"

"Beats me," I said quietly.

Then loudly I asked. "You gonna share the bad news?"

"Hey," Sue said. "It's not me. Hobby's been in brain cramp ever since he picked me up."

"Look, I'm sorry. I've been working on something, but I'm afraid you guys might not like it."

Playing Pocket Queens

Last time we talked about the problem that kings face against flopped aces. Queens face the same problem, only more so, for they have to fear both aces and kings on the flop. Still, queens are a premium pair, and you really want to be raising with them, especially to drive out those someone holding a king. Your preflop raise might not drive out A-J, but it should certainly send K-J to the muck.

Card Room Roundup: Red Rock Casino Resort Spa

Red Rock Casino-Resort-Spa sits on 70 choice acres of land approximately 10 miles west of the Las Vegas strip at Charleston and I-215. The natural backdrop of red rock cliffs dictated the design of this newest and most expensive resort project from Station Casinos and becomes their fifteenth property. Built at a cost of almost a billion dollars, the Red Rock Resort has been received with raves from the guest and visitors during the first few weeks of operation. My first jaded impression of this $925,000 project was genuine surprise. This place is plush, elegant and appointed.

The Over/Under In No Limit Hold Em

Have you ever noticed that when you raise in some live ring no limit games to 5 times the BB there are 5 players willing to see the flop and in other games it will quickly either win you the pot or significantly narrow the field? The sooner you find the over/under at a table the better you can use this knowledge to your advantage. It tells you the relative composition of a table and identifies the loose players in a game.

Today's Word is... 'Put'

Most of my personal history is quite blurry, and I have to piece together conversations and events as closely as I can. Oddly I specifically remember an exchange I had with a young poker player 30 years ago. I remember it, because I immediately went home and solidified my thoughts regarding it. It became the focal point for much of my teaching.

Omaha Hi-Low's Many Misconceptions, PART 2

Today we continue with some of the misconceptions associated with Omaha Hi-Low. Again I will use the same article written by a top female professional player as the basis for my comments.

In the third paragraph of her article Jennifer states "some players overvalue any hand that contains A- 2." There is good reason why people value hands containing an A-2. First of all they contain an Ace.

Arizona Stu Was in Town..

Why do we play poker? Why do so many of us look forward to an evening of poker at the local casino, online, or with friends in a home game? Well I had an opportunity to get some answers from an especially brilliant gentleman who happens to be a super poker player and has been playing winning poker for about 50 years.
