Todays word is... SPEECH

About this series: The following column is part of a series of self-interviews in which I get to ask my own questions and then answer them.

About the numbering: Don't worry if you haven't read any previous columns in the series. Each one is independent. The questions continue with number 166, but you can subtract 165 and start fresh, if that makes you happier.

The G-Spot: Pleasure Your Poker Playing Profits

Survival Time. A tournament's blind structure can determine how patient you should be. Although you can't just wait for aces and hope to double up, you can exercise patience with slow-moving blind structures and pick your spots. But with fast blind structures, you need to force the action-even in marginal situations.

Who Goes There?

The title question is one asked by a sentry on guard duty to determine if the person approaching is a friend or foe. When an opponent checks, calls, or raises, do you just check, call or re-raise based upon your position and hand strength, or do you really attempt to understand what his action means?

My Top Ten Poker Moments, Part 1

The Super bowl has its top ten plays (and games) of all time. N.B.A. basketball has its top ten plays of the month. ESPN Sports Center has its top ten plays of the day.

This got me thinking of my own top-ten poker moments. Making your own list may prove to be fun, and in some cases insightful. So here we go, my list in no particular order:

Who Said You Can't Bluff in Low-Limit?

How often have you heard: "No one can bluff in limit Hold 'em." Well, I am here to tell you:

YOU CAN WIN BY BLUFFING EVEN IN LOW-LIMIT HOLD'EM.

And I can prove it. While playing in a $3-$6 limit game the other night, I tried nine bluffs during the six hours I played. I was successful in seven of my nine attempts. A few days later, I attempted four bluffs during a seven hour session of $3-$6. All were successful. Indeed, winning bluffs have become a significant part of my win statistics, helping me to go home a winner.

Tanks for the Memories

During the course of a hand, any player who needs a few extra moments to think about what to do when the action is on him can request "time." It can be anything from a few moments to a minute or two, as he tries to decide what to do next. But occasionally this poker time-out takes longer-a lot longer. This is known as going into the tank. And it's not uncommon to see this happen over and over again, particularly in tournaments.
