Raise 'n' Chase: Part 7

You will recall our previous columns on raisin' and chasin' where we raised pre-flop in late position with a modest hand, for example, 6d-5d. In part 6 of this series, we presented a table showing the number of clean outs you need in order to see the turn card. The number of outs was dependent on the number of opponents you could count on to pay to see the turn card also. That table applies to fixed-limit hold 'em where betting limits double on the turn and river. In this column we show the number of outs you need to pay to see the river card.

Pro or Semi-Pro?

When might it make sense for you to quit your job and play poker full time for a living? I'm asked that from time to time by players who have won some money and think that they might be ready make the switch from playing poker as a hobby to playing poker for a living.

I'll share with you a typical example of that, from someone I met at Foxwoods who was thinking of quitting his day job. I've found it's typical of many who ask me about turning pro.

UB Concerns Settle with Sebok as Consultant

By the time this issue is published, it will have been six months since poker pro Joe Sebok accepted a sponsorship deal with UltimateBet.com, as well as a position as the Media & Operations Consultant for UB. It has not been an easy road for Sebok, as the backlash from some in the poker community has been harsh and included accusations of Sebok jumping at easy sponsorship money and naïvely accepting anything UB tells him. On the other side of the coin, he has received some support, as well as many who have opted for the wait-and-see, time-will-tell attitude.

Change Indian Gaming Can Believe In

Indian casinos may soon overtake commercial casinos. Total gaming revenues for tribes appear to be more than $26 billion a year, while the American Gaming Association reported the 12 commercial casino states generate less than $31 billion in 2009.

But Indian gaming is getting a boost from changes in the law, or, more particularly, from those who make the laws.
