The Big Raise

With tax season over, I'm thrilled to be able to actually play some poker. Perhaps the more things change, the more they stay the same. Well, that and the big raise have returned.

Alexander Queen is King of Borgata's Spring Poker Open

Alexander Queen, of Bethlehem, PA, became king of the Borgata Spring Poker Open when he vanquished Jason "PokerGeek" Min heads-up in the main event at Atlantic City. With his victory, Queen took home the princely sum of $355,535, while Min maxed out his bankroll with $205,965 for his second place finish.

Rounding out the top five were Daniel Hindin, who won $101,758 for his third place finish, Brooklyn's Mickael Morgousky, who finished fourth to win $85,818, and Mike "dragon balls" Somma from Middle Village NY, who won $73,558.

Debbie Does Poker: Club Fortune; Texas Station; Sunset Station; Poker Player Cruises

There's Still Time to Win a $10,000 WSOP Seat at Club Fortune. Players receive one free entry for every hour of live play in the Club Fortune poker room. The final qualifying period starts 7 p.m. on May 31 and ends at 6:59 p.m. June 25 with the final drawing at 7 p.m. Four players per drawing will receive an entry into a free WSOP seat tournament that's set for June 27 at 5:30 p.m. Players will start with 10,000 in chips with blinds starting at 25-50 and doubling every 15 minutes until the tournament ends and a lucky player wins a seat into the WSOP's main event.

Two New Online Gaming Bills Introduced to Congress

As discussed in the previous column, the chance of passing pro-online gaming legislation prior to the June 1 deadline, which is when UIGEA's regulations take effect, is slim. Even Rep. Barney Frank, one of the champions of a UIGEA repeal, said as much. But that hasn't stopped two bills from being introduced to Congress in February and March. Both will allow for online poker to be legalized and regulated on the federal level. In essence, passage of these bills would overturn the entirety of UIGEA.

Today's word is... FOLD

This is my 151st column in the modern "A Word from the 'Mad Genius'" series. Notice that I said "modern." That's because there were hundreds more in the old incarnation of Poker Player that thrived in the 1980s. Anyway, while examining the new list of poker words we've explored so far, I noticed a glaring gap. There was nothing between "Flop" and "Formula."

How can that be? That's the place reserved for one of the most important words in poker: "Fold." So, we're going to fix the omission right now, because "fold" is the focus of today's self-interview.
