2014 WSOP Event #7, $1500 Seven Card Razz

by Joseph Smith Sr.

Ted Forrest wins his sixth WSOP gold bracelet.  Phil Hellmuth denied 14th WSOP gold bracelet.  After playing heads-up for hours this was the final headlines from the final table of WSOP Event #7.  The two poker stars traded the chip lead a dozen times before Forrest finally moved Hellmuth's chip into his stack.

This win represented Ted Forrest's first win since 2004.  His last bracelet came at the downtown Horseshoe a decade ago and the last year before the WSOP moved to the Rio.  Forrest was quick to point out that this was his most difficult win in his career.  Facing Phil Hellmuth heads-up for more than four hours would probably be most players' worst nightmare.

This was Hellmuth's 49th final WSOP table, a record.  This was Hellmuth's 10th runner-up finish.  He already holds 13 WSOP bracelets, a record.

Considering the level of talent, a casual fan would have believed this to be a much bigger buy-in event.  The $1,500 buy-in Razz contest attracted 352 entrants and offered a prize pool totaling $475,300.  The top 40 finishers shared in the purse.  Ted Forrest walked away with $121,196 and the bracelet.

Included in the mix was former Main Event champions Phil Hellmuth, Berry Johnson and Huck Seed all of whom cashed.  David Bach, winner of the 2009 $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. And last year's runner up in the Razz event, finished in 4th place.

The following list the final table eight with their order of finish and money collected:

  1. Ted Forrest ------ $121,196

  2. Phil Hellmuth --- $74,848

  3. Greg Pappas ----- $48,275

  4. David Bach ------ $34,979

  5. Brock Parker ---- $25,717

  6. Brabdon Cantu – $19,183

  7. Yuebin Guo ----- $ 14,517

  8. Kevin Iacofano - $11,143

Congratulations to Ted Forrest for his 6th bracelet and Razz bragging rights.
