When visiting online poker forums recently, I was struck by one poster who claimed a particular site had really transformed his game— This player said it really had helped him repair some leaks that had been costing him money. Within months after he signed up there, his win rate had dramatically improved and he’s been owning most of the players in his regular game.

I decided to try it out and have already seen dramatic results. The flagship feature of the site is a poker simulator game featuring 10 levels and over 100 lifelike opponents. The patented game plays right in your browser with no download required. The opponents are tricky, and over time they learn your style, adjusting to defeat you just like skilled opponents you will play with regularly.

The action is blazingly fast—every time you fold, you immediately get dealt another hand. Some great features are the helpful “Odds” button, telling you the odds of improving your hand on the next card, and an “Advice” button for tricky situations. Members also receive weekly reports summarizing the hands they played, also showing which starting hands and positions are causing the most trouble. Every single hand you play is automatically saved to your own personal database, and their easy to find later using the site’s strong filtering and sorting capabilities. If your weekly report shows you’re losing money with, say, Ace- Queen, you can easily go back and review a video replay of every hand in which you were dealt AQ. You can even post individual hands to the APT forum for advice from other members.

As you find your weakness, APT can help you correct it. Using the trouble hand Ace- Queen example above, you can ask the software to deal you AQ over and over again, 100s or 1000s of times if you want. If your weakness is playing from the Big Blind, you can “freeze the button” and have the software deal you in the big blind continuously. Recently, APT added a new feature—the “Beat the Pro” Challenges. There are several Challenge modules. Each one is like a complete course in and of itself, for one particular “target area” of your game. Currently there are challenges on playing Ace- King, pocket Jacks, playing from the Big Blind, etc. Each challenge opens with a background video by one of their pros, teaching the concepts behind that particular target area. Then, you actually play through a group of hands in which you must demonstrate that skill set. When finished, you watch a video replay of your actions, and hear audio commentary from their pro describing how he/she played it, and why. is unique, quite powerful, and I highly recommend it. Check out the site at, but stay away from my table if you do.
