Winstar Casino, located in Thackerville, OK is currently offering $5 million dollars in cool cash with a guaranteed prize pool as well as a shot at television fame. Celebrities and some of the world's best poker and blackjack players will soon be flocking to the Texoma Region to compete in the WinStar World Champions Series of Poker and Blackjack. Televised satellite tournaments are currently in production and have been picked up by the ABC network. The casino has an in-house television studio located in the Showplace Theater and will be filming the week long final series starts August 16 and runs through the August 23.
The two separate multi-month tournaments will be featured in a television show dedicated to the back stories involving the layers of drama at the tables. Brian Campbell, CEO for the Division of Commerce of the Chickasaw Nation that runs the casino, stated in a press release, "WinStar Casinos has gained an excellent reputation in recent years through its Red River Roundup Poker Tournaments, so we are well known now in the poker industry. We've attracted World Series of Poker stars Greg Raymer, David Williams, and T.J. Cloutier, with our purses and prizes, however these two new tournaments take us to a whole new level of excitement and exposure to a broader audience."
Production crews are on the premises and will video all of the participants. A TV show called The River that will cover the personalities and plays during the entire WinStar poker tournament. Another show called The Split will highlight the tricks and traits of those who are lucky to move up in the WinStar Blackjack tournament.
Televised Mega Satellites as well as qualifiers are currently underway and will run through mid-August, so there is still time left to get into the game.
The River tournament structure is as follows:
Total Prize Pool: $3 Million-Guaranteed;
Entrants: Capped at 1,500;
Actual Buy-In: $2,000 + $100 = $2,100;
Actual Rake: $100, or 5% Maximum
