The Beat's from the Northeast!

Delaware Park’s poker room has been known as a favorite for tv personality, Montel Williams, and more recently, for Olympian, Michael Phelps. Though he’s used to swimming with the big fish of the competitive swimming world, it would be interesting to see how Phelps would fare in a competition requiring a different kind of endurance- perhaps the Ironman contest.

Seneca Allegheny in Salamanca, New York is starting a poker league in September – more details to come soon. Usually the poker leagues I hear about are in underground rooms, so this one sounds innovative.

The highly anticipated, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town in West Virginia, has been busy running tournaments and keeping their 50 tables full. A tournament a day: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays for a buy-in of $150. Another ongoing tournament on Wednesdays has a $250 buy-in, as does the Friday tournament. Saturdays at 1PM, you will start with 20,000 in chips, with 30 minute blinds. The boss (Randy Kiefer) has been hard at work on a new tournament series, and is currently running an “End of Summer Cash Giveaway.”

Look for tournaments at Horseshoe Cleveland, starting September 20th. This poker room has been packing them in, further proof that the locals were starved for a poker room. And speaking of Ohio, Hollywood Casino Toledo finally kicked off their poker tournaments. The morning tournaments will run Monday thru Friday at 10:15AM, all with a $40 buy-in. In addition, Peter Lau, poker room manager, offers a Bounty Hunter $65 buy-in Thurs. at 7:15PM. The Toledo Deepstack plays every Sunday at 12:15PM with a $120 buy-in and 12,000 in chips. The $300 buy-in Labor Day Classic is slated for Sept. 3rd at 12:15PM. Muti-table satellite and Sit and Go satellites will be available too.

Turning Stone in Verona, New York is running a $7,500 PLAY FOR A DAY GIVEAWAY. For every 24 hours of live game poker play in a calendar month, you will receive one entry into the grand prize drawings. (No, the play doesn’t have to be consecutive!) If you go to Turning Stone on the second Friday of any month, from September to December, swipe your Diamond Card at any promotion kiosk to activate your entries, and be sure to be present in the poker room when your name is called to win up to $2500.

A little off the beat, Horseshoe Council Bluffs in Iowa will be hosting the Horseshoe Poker Classic from Aug. 21-27. Of special interest is the $180 Omaha/8 at 11AM on Aug. 24th, $450 NLH at 11AM on Aug. 25th, and the $900 NLH at 11AM on August 26th. Play, stay, and eat an incredible steak at Jack Binion’s Steak House. Andrew Brock is the man in charge of this poker room.

Barbara Rogers is a competitive player in many endeavors including pool and poker tournaments. She is the Northeast Regional Sales Manager and a writer for Poker Player.
