Blake Bohn Wins $288,171 in Chicago Poker Classic Main Event

392 entrants create a $1,200,720 prize pool.

Blake Bohn from Savage, Minn. won the 2013 Chicago Poker Classic Main Event Monday night in Hammond, Ind. pocketing $288,171. The win, which came in one of the country’s few $3,200 main events, marks the largest score of Bohn’s career.

“It feels great. I work really hard at it,” Bohn said. “It’s really exciting to run deep. That’s why we put in so many hours, to have a victory like this.”

Bohn had success in Hammond in the past, finishing fifth in the 2011 CPC Main Event, but his 2013 series was fruitless prior to his Main Event run. He came to the final table second-to-last in chips with 486,000 and blinds of 12,000/24,000 with a 3,000 ante. The eliminations came fast, starting with James Snyder in ninth and Ralph Massey in eighth. Bohn slowly worked his way up the pay ladder until he found himself heads-up with Shiva Dudani.

The final hand saw Bohn lead out on a board of [Jx] [5x][2x] and Dudani move all in with [Jx][7x]. Bohn snap-called, tabling [5x][2x] for two pair and Dudani was behind. The turn and river ran out no help and Bohn was crowned champion.

“We love (Charlie Ciresi’s) tournaments,” Bohn said. “The structure here, other than the World Series (of Poker) Main Event, is the second best tournament I play every year. Great value. It’s a fourday structure for a $3,000 event.”

The 2013 CPC Main Event saw a slight attendance increase (9 percent) over last year. The championship tournament drew 392 entrants and boasted a prize pool of $1,200,720. Notable players to finish in the money include Aaron Massey (32nd), Musa Mustafa (31st), David Peters (13th), Christopher Bell (11th) and Ravi Raghavan (10th).

Dudani followed up a seventh place finish in the WSOP Circuit Main Event held here in October with a second place finish Monday night. He began the final table as the chip leader, but was eliminated just short of the title, earning $178,091.

Ralph Massey’s performance at the 2013 CPC wasn’t reflected in the overall points leaderboard, but he may likely have had the most impressive accomplishment of any player at the series. He started things off by outlasting more than 99 percent of the recordbreaking, 5,165-player field in Event 1, recording an 11th place finish and his largest score to date.

Massey capped things off Monday afternoon by making his first career final table in the Main Event, finishing eighth and almost doubling his previous best score.

Ralph’s younger brother, Aaron, won Event 5, a $5,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em tournament, cashing in on more than $70,000. The Massey brothers’ winnings totaled more than $100,000 in all during the 13-day event.

The series, though, be longed to Bohn, a 40-yearold professional player from Savage, MN. His poker resumé boasts 722nd and 126th place finishes in the WSOP Main Event totaling almost $75,000.
