Rules of Poker-Essential Work!
As the author of several poker books, including the outstanding primer Hold'em Excellence and it's follow up, MORE Hold'em Excellence, Lou Krieger has established himself as one of the premier poker player/ writers of our time. Once again, he has teamed with publishing whiz Sheree Bykofsky to offer this solid, must-read (by house and players) guide.
This collaborative effort should help reduce stress and settle arguments everywhere, from home poker games to the biggest cash games or tournaments. One additional plus is that many examples come from real situations that players and dealers recreated which results in showing how important it is to have a good dealer and solid, understanding card room management. (They certainly earn their keep on their watch.)
There are many parts to the book, each covering even the minute points of cardroom rules. Some of the topics bring in the general rights and procedures of the house as well as the type of conduct and etiquette expected from players. The rules cover major material on hold'em and Omaha plus pineapple, crazy pineapple and Tahoe, stud games, split games, razz, fi ve-card-stud, Mississippi seven-card stud, draw and lowball, California lowball, deuceto- seven triple draw and ace-to-fi ve triple draw. Other major sections cover tournaments and cash games, including how to handle side pots, exposed cards with action pending, the English-only rule, keeping chips visible and penalties for infractions and rebuy tournaments. A final, small but fascinating section discusses rules the authors would like to see changed including, many of which have been critically discussed by world-class players.
This is a pocket-sized tome so it's easy to keep in a jacket pocket for quick and trouble-free reference.
The authors wrote the book to offer players and management a look at what's fair, what's best for a variety of situations and what "makes for honest and equitable procedures in managing and playing the game." Fully indexed, the work should be considered one of the most important and powerful books ever for anyone who loves the game as a player, dealer or overseer.
