Bryan Devonshire Wins a Come-From-Behind Victory at Harrah's Rincon WSOP Circuit Championship
April 26, 2010 - 2:53am
Bryan Devonshire scored a breakthrough victory by winning Rincon's 2010 WSOP circuit main event championship-a $5,000 (+$150) buy-in no-limit hold 'em tournament-in Valley Center, CA, located just outside San Diego. Top prize was $114,975 along with a $10,000 seat into July's WSOP main event.
"Devo," as he is known in poker circles, is a 28-year-old poker pro with live tournament winnings totaling more than $1.1 million.
Ron Segni, a general contractor from El Cajon, CA had his third in-the-money finish at this year's Rincon series. He also cashed three times in 2009. The contractor came up short when his Ah-8s was nailed down by Dan Schneider's Jh-8h, who rivered a flush that put Segni out in fifth place with $26,280.
San Diego's John Farrell, who finished eighth last year, departed fourth when his Ad-8c lost to Dan Schreiber's Ac-Kd. The final board showed As-6s-4d-4c-Kc, giving Schreiber the winning hand with top two pair. Farrell saw the door with $32,850.
Howard "Tahoe" Andrew currently holds the record for the person who has played more consecutive WSOP years than any other. His participation dates back to 1974. Tahoe, now 75, won two WSOP gold bracelets in 1976 and cashed in the WSOP main event four times. But he ran low on chips late and went out with Qs-Td against Dan Schreiber's Ac-9c, when neither player improved. Howard "Tahoe" Andrew collected $49,275 in show money.
Dan Schreiber, who won $72,270 for his second place finish, appeared to be well on his way to victory. The 24-year-old San Diego poker pro led virtually the entire last half of the tournament but lost a crippling hand to Devonshire that left him low on chips. Devonshire's late rally-where he took some risks and adjusted his strategy to overcome what he considered Schreiber's superior skill at heads-up play-paid off to the tune of $114,975 and gave Devo his first WSOP-related victory.
