Chris Nall Crowned Champ at bestbet 50K

The January 50K promised a $50,000 prize pool, but the guarantee was soon crushed under the weight of 709 players who sent the prize pool skyrocketing into the six-figure range. After the 5 starting flights had departed from their gates, the prize pool was a staggering $120,530.

Day 2 of the event saw 99 returning players, and 80 spots getting paid. Cards went in the air at noon, and the final river fell about 10 hours later with local player, Chris Nall, finding himself all alone, victorious atop a mountain of 708 other players. Apart from the pride that comes from toppling such a large field, Chris put an equally impressive $15,000 into his pockets. Chris is a bestbet Jacksonville regular who comes in to play poker once a week, as well as casually, with his friends, on his off days. Chris is originally from Louisville, but he left his old Kentucky home and now resides in Jacksonville Beach. He’s a computer programmer by trade whose biggest cash prior to the January 50k was when he took home the losing share of the bad beat jackpot a few years back.

At the final table, Chris was able to avoid the bad beats. He played his way through a gruesome field that included long-time bestbet regular and final table stalwart Aaron Lucas, 5th and 3rd place professional dealers, Devin Stoll and Corey Zarnoch, as well a terrifying heads-up opponent, Tad Wood. Tad is no stranger to final tables; the Savannah native finished 3rd in last Springs WPT Main Event. After Tad eliminated 4th place finisher, Pete Chwala, and Corey Zarnoch in the same hand, it came down to just he and Chris. After an hour of heads-up play, Chris got an advantage and hammered the point home, soon taking a commanding chip lead.

Tad found himself pushing all-in with pocket 5’s, Chris snap called with K-10 offsuit. The flop came J-Q-3, Tad still had a slight edge, but an ace on the turn would give Chris Broadway and close the door on Tad’s hope for a comeback victory.
