Delaware Park’s Kevin Castora: A Man With A Plan— Of ACTION!

By Barbara Rogers

Kevin Castora took a big chance—while up-rooting his young family, when he and a group of experienced casino workers made the long trek from Las Vegas to the East Coast. Delaware Park was their destination, and I don’t believe they looked back. Delaware Park was fortunate to open with a highly qualified and well trained staff. They hit the ground running and before long, made their mark in the fiercely competitive poker world.

The cash poker room bustles with activity, and when the tournaments are playing, they enjoy big fields as well. With plenty of innovative ideas, genuine concern for the players, and a passion for the game, Kevin Castora is well entrenched in making his own mark on the poker front. From January 2nd to the 15th, he will host the first Delaware Park Winter Classic. With a main event pay-out of $150,000, plus plenty of other events paying out 20,000, 50,000 75,000, and 100,000, it will be a dream for any poker player.

The debonair Kevin Castora has always reminded me of an old soul in a young man’s body. He carries himself as though he knows something you don’t. I think it’s the fact that he won’t be rattled. I think it may be that he is secure in his knowledge of how to run things the right way. And that he does: that is well illustrated by all his innovations to the poker room, and the success of all the first time events he has masterminded. Kevin has a tremendous work ethic.

But as confident as he is, as impeccable in his style, Kevin is approachable. Starting out with a career in the NCAA planted in his mind, his ability was derailed by an injury. Since playing professional baseball was no longer an option, officiating was. Off to professional umpiring school, went he. After graduating at the top of his class, Kevin found that in spite of his qualifications, opportunities were scarce. Kevin’s next move was Clemson University. After several years of studying math and physics, with a perfect 4.0 grade average in his discipline, the restless Kevin decided once again to move on, thinking that he did not want to spend the rest of his life doing calculus and equations. But not before co-founding the Clemson Card Players Club long before the big poker boom exploded onto the scene. That card playing bug that began long ago, began to emerge.

With the spirit of a cowboy, Kevin headed West. He sold his motorcycle, loaded up all his earthly possessions into his truck, and headed for Vegas. While playing poker at the Aladdin, now known as Planet Hollywood, Kevin heard the Stratosphere was hiring for a new poker room. He soon became their shift manager before leaving for the Bellagio Resort & Casino broadening his range. All part of a planned learning experience, he added more experience to his fast growing resume by hiring on with the World Series Of Poker Circuit. His last stint in Vegas was the Aria Resort & Casino. Then came the offer he could not refuse, from the progressive and forward thinking Delaware Park Casino; A perfect match for the forward-thinker. After a year, Kevin was living the dream of managing his own poker room. The dream would only be partial if not for his very understanding wife Tonya, his three year old son Chase, and little ten month baby daughter Chloe. They complete the dream for Kevin.
