Sometimes enough is enough-even when it comes to playing poker. After an eleven hour final day of spirited competition at Foxwoods $2,000 buy-in No-Limit Mega Stack Challenge X, the four remaining final table players all cried "Uncle" and agreed to end things mercifully.
After 150 entrants generated a prize pool of $269,175, only 34 players remained when action got underway on noon of the tournament's second day, but poker is a funny game. Sometimes things move quickly while it seems to take forever to eliminate players on other occasions. Day Two of this event, held right before Christmas on December 19 and 20, was one of those takes-forever days.
Following more than eleven hours of play four finalists still remained, and with the chip counts close and no one staring elimination in the face anytime soon, Mike Grzybowski, of Windsor, CT, Matt Casterella, of White Plains, NY, Geozoh Netanelof, of Rego Park, NY, and Ryan Eriquezzo, of New Haven, CT all decided to chop the remaining prize pool of $176,310 and take $44,078 apiece for their long day's journey into night.
It seemed an equitable deal and a nice pay increase over the $17,496 won by Bob Lauria of Norwich, CT who finished in fifth place.
In case you missed this one, Foxwoods $2,000 buy-in No-Limit Mega Stack Challenge XI is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 6 - 7, with play beginning at 11 a.m. Friday. Foxwoods is also offering a $560 buy-in mega stack event at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 7.
