Harrahs AC: Tod Liang Wins WSOP Circuit Event 2

Tod Liang amassed quite the chip stack heading to the final table of Event 2, a $365 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry tournament. What’s more impressive though, is he steadily added to the stack throughout the late stages of play.

“I was pretty confident with my game the whole day,” Liang admitted. “I recognized a few faces at that final table. It wasn’t easy--it was tough.”

In the end, Liang bested the 483-entry field to win $31,159 and his first Circuit gold ring.

If he felt it was tough, he had a funny way of showing it. Liang turned his final table chip lead into a headsup chip advantage of about seven-to-one before eliminating Virgil Page second for $19,262.

Those faces he recognized? They belonged to two-time ring winner Joseph McKeehan (eighth), Tim Kelly (seventh), ring winners Zachary Donovan (sixth) and Paul Lambrakis (fourth) as well as Jamie Kerstetter (third).

In addition to these talents, two-time ring winner Kevin McColgan finished 43rd and gold bracelet winner Chris Tryba 19th.

“Jokingly, I told my girlfriend I was going to come and win… And I actually did,” Liang laughed.

Liang is a 29-year-old professional poker player from Brooklyn. While this doesn’t mark his first tournament victory, it holds a special in the East Coast grinder’s heart.

“[The ring] is very meaningful. I got a trophy at Borgata and it’s very meaningful to win one at Harrah’s,” he told the WSOP. Event 2 was the second of 12 gold ring events on the WSOP Circuit schedule at Harrah’s Resort. The $365 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry tournament attracted 483 entries generating a $144,900 prize pool. The top 54 players were paid.

The first of two starting flights began Saturday at 12 p.m. A total of 192 players registered and just 28 (15 percent) advanced to Day 2 following less than 14 levels of play.

The second starting flight began Sunday at 12 p.m. Rock N Roll Poker Open and drew 291. This flight matched the levels played of the first and 48 players advanced.

Day 2 began Monday at 2 p.m. with 78 players remaining. The nine-handed final table started shortly before 10 p.m. and concluded just after 2:15 am.
