Wildhorse Resort and Casino’s annual Spring Poker Roundup, comprised 12 days of play and included the always popular no-limit hold ’em, HORSE, Omaha/8, limit hold ’em, and ladies no-limit hold ’em.
Event No. 7 was named in honor of the late Bob Thompson—a pioneering tournament director who died last December. Thompson was the tournament director at the Bicycle Casino’s Diamond Jim Brady poker tournament, which during his tenure there was second in size only to the World Series of Poker in prize money and attendance.
Two of Thompson’s children, Cathi Wood and Robert Thompson Jr., were on hand for the ceremonies and played in the event. Cathi nearly won it, finishing seventh out of a field of 168.
The All-Around Championship came down to the wire and was won by John Murphy who took home over $35,000 and the coveted Champion’s suede jacket. Along with the prize money for the event, over $1 million, each winner also walked away with a seven-day Alaska Cruise for two.
