Lesson 169: Exciting times at Poker1

I’m excited! Mike Caro's Poker1 is reborn! And I’ve played a part in it.

For five years, Mike Caro has been unable to administer Poker1.com. He couldn’t add content to his beloved, once-thriving web site. The Technicians who controlled Poker1 changed vital proprietary code, unintentionally damaging it to the point that it barely functioned.

So a few months ago, Mike decided to rebuild the site himself, keeping complete control of everything.

Rebirth. Today, I’d like to announce the rebirth of MCU’s Poker1.com! Mike had secretly worked endless hours, preparing the new site for public view. He isn’t done yet, but on March 16, he quietly opened the gates to the public so that they could witness this rebirth in progress.

It might be the only site you’ve ever visited that makes its internal development log and daily to-do list public. You can follow the progress, including mistakes and problems, in real time.

Mike’s design is controversial. It’s free of outside advertising, except for a banner donated to Doyle’s Room, which he endorses. Contrary to current design theory, Mike created “a quiet rest stop on the Internet highway of glitzy billboards and colliding colors.” All the surroundings are gray-scale, with color photos, videos, and other elements appearing on center stage, and only when necessary. Everything is created so you can easily find, read, view, and understand the content.

Although some things haven’t made the transition from the old site yet, there are many poker learning aids that are exclusively at the new site, including Mike’s blog. We will have the rest available to you soon, adding all-new audios and videos. You’ll be able to enjoy these free of charge while munching popcorn.

Mike is still working on the odds and rules. But, as the days go by you will see more of those added to over 400 entries already there.

Michael Wiesenberg. The Wiesenberg Official Dictionary of Poker is still being tailored for the new site. Michael Wiesenberg is contributing his own content which covers pan (panguingue), a type of rummy that is occasionally played for money, and poker. You’ll find his Aunt Sophie columns enjoyable and enlightening.

I can’t get Mike to prioritize the online shopping. He seems to care more about making new poker friends than making money. But if I keep nagging maybe he’ll move that closer to the top of the to-do list.

You will find a historic collection of Mike’s articles, lectures, lessons, reports, books, and videos, all free at Poker1 to assist in your poker education. The tells videos will prepare you for that moment when you sit down at the poker table, ready to face opponents who are trying their best to trick you. (Of course you can also purchase the full DVD.) You’ll be pleased when you recognize a tell accidentally exhibited by an opponent. Remember, don’t let on that you noticed! That’s a key tip Mike explains at Poker1. Pretend you didn’t notice, and you’ll be able to profit again from the same tell.

Armed. Another important Poker1 tip is to be kind to the neighbors to your left, as they have the positional power to punish you if they choose or if you offend them in any way. You may, however, kindly go to war with any player to your right.

Be a friendly opponent! Don’t be sarcastic or degrading. You will also benefit if you refrain from joining the Tilt Crowd, those players who suffer disappointing outcomes at the poker table then react in ways that put their decision-making in the tank.

If you remember one of Mike’s most important tips, “Always play your best game,” then you need not become a member of the Tilt Crowd. Instead, you can become a winning player!

I want to welcome everyone to the new Poker1. Come on in and sit a spell in poker’s new quiet zone!
