Matt Mason, winner of the Heartland Poker Tour at Golden Gates in Black Hawk, CO will use part of his $188,955 prize money to wed his fiancée Jackie Wright. Their plans to marry had been on hold more than a year due to financial struggles. Mason outlasted 419 entrants in the Heartland main event to claim his prize.
Golden Gates at Black Hawk hosted the event that included qualifying tournaments in which a player could win entry into the main event for a much smaller investment. Second place finisher John “Bubba” Holdren invested just $180 for a prize of $94,478.
Heartland strives for a fun “fishing trip” type of atmosphere, and a comedy show hosted by Heartland announcer Fred Bevill was part of that fun.
“Golden Gates is a great host for their tournaments,” says Heartland GM Jennifer Mastrud. This was one of her favorite final tables to film with six really nice guys who appreciated the opportunity Heartland brings. “It was really good poker” said Mastrud.
Todd Anderson, Heartland president, says “Our players know they can expect a massive prize pool in Black Hawk, and Golden Gates is now the stop they don’t miss.” Heartland Poker Tour will return to Golden Gates from September 11 - 26, 2010.
