Michael Mizrachi is a man on a mission. At the tender age of 25, the boy from North Beach, Miami, is setting the poker world on fire. Currently ranked #1 at both Pokerpages and CardPlayer, 2006 has been a cash rich year in the cardroom for the Team Absolute Poker Pro.
With million dollar plus wins at both the LA Poker Classic and the Borgota Winter Open, Michael's relentless technique at the tables - which earned him the nickname: 'The Grinder' - is clearly paying dividends.
And - with only two years of pro play under his belt - how did The Grinder get into that poker groove?
"I started playing poker for money when I was just 15 years old," explains Michael. 'My brother Robert took me on cruise ships and to Indian Casinos, and I used to watch my mother Susan play poker years before.
"I've been winning at poker since day one and haven't looked back. Robert and I used to discuss hands and work out what would be the winning strategy for every situation."
Sports and movies fan Michael is married to Aidiliy and they have two children - Paul William and Julie Malka. He joined the AbsolutePoker.com Pro Team 12 months ago.
In his relatively short professional poker career, The Grinder has stacked up a pot worth more than 5.5 million dollars. What tips does the best poker player in the world have to offer?
'I'm always grinding... This game is all about winning and losing and you have be aware of any situation. Always stay focused and play your cards right! Make sure you give yourself the very best chance of winning. "I play limits from $10 - $20 up to $2000 - $4000 and I play ALL the games: Stud, Holdem, Omaha, Hi Lo, Stud Hi Lo, and Badugi. Basically... I've played them all."
