Gary Steen and Crystal Ott won separate satellite tournaments at Pechanga's Poker Room during the month of August which send players to the Championship Event and the Ladies' Event respectively at the WSOP.
Gary Steen from Placentia, CA (near Los Angeles) came in for the recent monthly "Big Showdown" tournament - a $250 buy-in, No Limit Hold 'Em event in which the final player receives a $10,000 seat to the main event at the 2007 WSOP and keeps his final chip count winnings. Gary managed to edge out nearly 100 other stiff competitors in the August "Big Showdown" and won out with the high-low of King-Two. Gary will be one of more than 6,000 players at next year's WSOP, however, "everyone has the same chance at winning the millions," he said enthusiastically. He also took home $2,230 as part of his first place win.
Crystal Ott, a fierce lady poker player from Corona, CA, took on nearly 50 other women in the monthly Ladies Only No Limit Hold 'Em tournament at the Pechanga Poker Room. Held at 6:30pm on the second Thursday each month, dozens of women duke it out for a $1,000 seat in the Ladies' Event at the 2007 WSOP. Crystal emerged ahead of the competition in Pechanga Poker Room's August Ladies Only event, earning her the seat at the WSOP and $660 to boot.
