Poker East and a Little West of the Mississippi

by Barbara Rogers

Is Hollywood a state of mind?

If you are playing poker in one of the Hollywood Casino’s, it’s a state of being.....being in a chance of a lifetime situation, that is! You can win an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas at the fabulous Forbes Four Star M Resort and a shot at a half million dollars. Opportunity abounds! The folks at Penn National Gaming are making sure you have a fair shot at it by bringing a chance to win at a Hollywood Casino somewhere close to you. So it’s your fault if you don’t take advantage of this. And I don’t exagerate when I say fabulous. My cousins, Paulie and Gale frequently travel to Vegas. They have dined all over the city and here is Paulie’s quote, “The M buffet is now my favorite, anywhere.” “The quality of the food is outstanding and the selection is huge!” And they know of what they speak as they have been eating out for thirty years! That has to count for expert status. Seriously, it’s a great thing to play poker in an environment like the M. You feel great in your surroundings while you retire to a luxurious bed in a beautiful room and re-play all the hands from the day’s session in your head.

The big Pro Poker Championship is coming to Dover Downs. Don’t forget to be a part of this epic event. With five nationally televised events, and some of the best blind structure you will ever see, Dover Downs is the place to be. The dates are October 26th through November 19th.

How can you not win at Turning Stone Casino’s big $60,000 cash give-a-way?! Every time I think Turning Stone has peaked with the huge amount of money and prizes they’ve give away, they surpass themselves. This time, while the Super Stacks is playing out, just spend some time at the cash tables, I am betting you will be glad you did. You can view this smorgasbord of prizes on page 19 of this issue of Poker Player [Download the PDF].

You definitely want to play in the $500,000 guaranteed No limit Hold’em tournament at the Sands Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. This is a big event for Sands: their biggest one ever. There will be plenty of satellite rounds, giving you a good shot at winning an entry. If you can’t battle your way to winning a seat, there are plenty of other events paying out good sums of money; just buy your seat. You can view the schedule of events by visiting or read the next issue of Poker Player where I will bring you more of the details.

The November Freeze Out will be held on Saturday November 11, 12:15 pm. at Hollywood Casino Toledo, Ohio. For a $300 buy-in, you play a deep stack event with 20,000 in starting chips and 20-30 minute blinds. Satellites are available on Saturday Nov. 10th and Sunday, Nov. 11th, both at 10 am. So don’t be shut out, go early. These events are popular. Another exciting addition to the schedule at Hollywood Casino in Toledo is the $50 buy-in, 15/15 Madness Event on Fridays, starting November 1st at 7:15 pm. You will start with 15,000 in chips playing 15 minute blind levels.

The action is heating up at Mohegan Sun in Ct. and will be especially hot from November 23rd through December 4th. The Deepstacks Poker Tour, complete with Michael “The Grinder,” and Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, comes to town for 12 days with a big 32 events on tap. This is the Mohegan Sun National Championship $1,000,000 Series Guarantee! The main event will be televised, with a cool $500,000 guarantee. I’ll bring more on this, for you, in our next issue. Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Altoona, Iowa has visitors. Greg “Fossilman” Raymer and ESPN World Series of Poker Commentator Lon Mc Eachern are in town, along with plenty of other players for the Heartland Poker Tour running October 12th thru October 22nd.

Indiana is the place to be too. If you think it would be fun stuff to be on a riverboat gambling with Scotty Nguyen calling you “baby” the Heartland Poker Tour will be going on the 9th thru the 18th of November at Belterra Casino & Spa in Florence, Indiana. Expected to drawl plenty of players from around the country, a six figure payout for first place is anticipated.
