Lucky Lonnie Lundy, a car salesman from Lima, Ohio won the $300 December Mega Stack at Hollywood Casino Toledo, taking home $7194. Lucky, because the win came just in time for Christmas, the rest was pure skill, I’m sure. The next Mega Stack will be on Sunday, January 6th at 12:15 pm with satellites starting on January 5th. Poker room manager, Peter Lau is featuring games of the week this month. Fridays: $1-$3 Pot Limit Omaha, Thursdays: $3-6 Limit hold’em. The big Hollywood Poker Open Seat Giveaway Drawing will be held on January 13th, 2013. Players can qualify by playing 45 hours of cash games or 25 hours + 5 tournaments (not much to ask- I can do that standing on my head) from now until January 11, 2013.
Recently I played the Deep Stack Extravaganza at Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA. Poker room manager, David Urie is a class act. His evenkeeled temperament sets a good example for his staff: they are all very pleasant and never allow themselves to become rattled. Some of the table talk I heard from first time players to Sands was centered around how big the facility is. They were impressed with the poker cash playing area of the casino. Within 2 hours, I noticed the $5-$10 game had $50,000 in play! Sands has an outlet mall of two levels and the hotel is very cosmopolitan, while maintaining a unique structure that pays homage to the historic steel mill that once stood on the property.
$575,000 awaits the players at Delaware Park in January. The first Delaware Park Winter Classic will be in play from January 2nd to January 15th: a great way to start out the New Year. Put your poker winnings into your planned poker fund for the year so you parlay it into more -- that’s the kind of thinking in my head. But I know there will be plenty more money available to win throughout the year. It’s an ambitious schedule at Delaware Park, and growing, thanks to the vision of the suits. Not card suits, but the good guys wearing suits in administration. They’re the best you know, and if it weren’t for them, we would not have these great tournaments to play in: Happy New Year, Gentlemen!
THE GREAT MINNESOTA FREEZE OUT is coming up! Shakopee, Minnesota, home of Canterbury Park, will host The Great Minnesota Freeze Out Tournament, highlighted by the $1,100 NLH Championship running January 25th to the 28th. Canterbury Park recently hosted the Mid-States Poker Tour with a record breaking number of entries in the main event. This resulted in the largest prize pool of the tour to date.
$70,000 is the guaranteed prize pool at the M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas as they host three HPO events from January 25-27th. You have a chance to win a seat in the $500,000 Guaranteed HPO Championship that we are all looking forward to! The event will be held at the M Resort in June from the 28-30th. The tournament will have 30 minute blinds for the January 25-26th events with the tournament on the 27th enjoying 45 minute blinds. All three guaranteed events will start at 2pm.
Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus, Minnesota hosts the Big Stack Avalanche Tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000 on January 12th-13th, buy-in of $500. Watch for the Mid-State Poker Tour coming in February. This one has a guaranteed prize pool of $200,000 with a buy-in of only $1,100. The dates are February 9th-17th. Call 877-RUNACES for information.
Dover Downs is doing it for the players. Poker room manager Pete McGuire must lay awake at night thinking of these events, promotions, and prizes. The high hand and royal flush promotions are so popular, they will continue. The third weekend in February will see one hundred Ninja Prep Masters raffled off to poker players. The month of March’s big promotion is a fully loaded Toyota Camry to a first place tournament winner. The buy-in is only $199, with 20 places being paid. This is definitely a player appreciation event, brought to you by Dover Downs. The bad beat is fast approaching $100,000, when it hits this amount, the qualifier drops to Aces full of Kings. The bad beat seem to go fast and often in the Crown Royal poker room. Don’t forget the Pro Poker Championships were re-scheduled for January 25th to February 11th, because of the storm. Brian Rast and Daniel Cates will go to battle February 1st in their heads up $100,000 show. That should be a lot of fun to watch!
