Red River Round-up Poker Tournament at Winstar - Where the West is Won
June 25, 2007 - 2:53am
The annual "Red River Round-up" Poker Tournament, at the Chickasaw Nation's WINSTAR Casino, in Thackerville, OK, on the border with Texas, is a special title. It means riding into the heart and legend of the American West, where poker has been played since Doc Holliday, Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp sat at the table, and taking the money.
The Red River, along the Texas/Oklahoma border, has held an important place in American history and culture. It's said to be "Where the South meets the West". The region has been celebrated in song and movies. The well known song "Red River Valley" was made famous by Gene Autry in the 1936 movie of the same name. Another film classic, "Red River", 1948, staring John Wayne, was the epic story of a cattle drive along the Chisholm Trial in 1867.
Chip-kickers from around the West will gather for the "Red River Round-up" August 23,-25, 2007. Satellites and super-satellites begin June 14th and continue until August 17th.
The championship event is limited to 1000 participants. The tournament will be held in the ShowPlace Theatre from Thursday, Aug. 23rd thru Saturday, Aug. 25th. Total prize money is expected to exceed $1 million!
Everybody will be there, including flop-riding bronco busters, river ropers, card clowns, the good, the bad, and the ugly. They're all looking for a few dollars more. Every card cowboy hopes to put his brand on hand and fill his buck-board with bucks. This is where you want to tell your opponent, "Go ahead, make my day."
The Red River Round-up Poker Tournament is like a Sam Peckinpah movie, it features action, including showdowns, shootouts and ambushes. In No-Limit, when two players go into a hand, there's a good chance one of them won't be coming back. There'll be victims and victories, heroes and zeroes; but, when the smoke clears, the good guys will ride off into the sunset with Miss Chips.
The Winstar Casino is an enormous complex. It's actually 3 casinos under one roof. The "Red River Round-up" final championship will be held in the large, handsome ShowPlace Theatre.
Winstar recently relocated and expanded its poker room. It now boasts "the largest and most opulent poker room in the state". There are 45-poker tables, a handsome player's lounge, and all the action any cowboy can handle. For more information or reservations, call: 1 (800) 622-6317.
