Day one of the Oklahoma State Championship of Poker featured the popular Jack & Jill event where two players-one male and one female-alternate play. The no-limit hold 'em event attracted 157 players and a $100 + $20 buy-in, generated a $14,130 prize pool.
"Once it got five handed, there were a few big hands that knocked out two of the women, so when it got down to the three of us, I was almost at twice as many chips as everyone else. There was a lot of all ins and folds at that point," said Zoellner. "When we were heads up, I had an A-7 off suit and raised $40,000. He smooth called me. He had two clubs in his hand and the flop came 7d, Kc and Jc. He goes all in. The clubs didn't come, and now I'm at 2-to-1 in chips."
"The next hand, I had a pair of tens and he has an A-6. He goes all in. Again, it didn't come for him. I got really lucky. I was running really hot," summed up Zoellner.
"I have to give it to Robert. He was on his game. I've never seen anyone be more focused than he was. He did an amazing job assessing the other players and remembering the hands," said his opponent. "Also, in one round, I caught pocket aces and then pocket kings. They wanted to chop, but we didn't want to. We went there to take it all home and that's what we did."
