There are times when I am writing that I have to resist the temptation to tell the absolute truth, as I see it. However, that brings to mind the movie starring Jack Nicholson and his famous quote, "You can't handle the truth!" to stop me in my tracks. In our collective quest to win fame and fortune - via the W.S.O.P. of Poker or some other form of windfall - it has occurred to me that were that objective to be achieved today, it would be anti-climactic. The truth is we enjoy the challenge of the chase! That is what motivates us to continue the tunnel vision search for the way. Now, granted the full appreciation of the monetary rewards, gifts, sense of relief from our monetary obligations make for temporary gratification. In the real world of daily scuffle, the only lasting sense of being is not the MONEY, but the prospect of how the quality of life will improve. Quality of life is the real objective, whether it is limited to just self, or more probably incorporating others, as it should be. For what is life by oneself? Did you ever see the movie "Castaway". Even though the idea of coveting a ball, "Wilson, come back" by Tom Hanks, is far fetched, we get the idea. No man is an island, is a poetic line used in many an example to qualify that truth.
Sometimes when I awaken I am so confused as to what I want to do with myself I will go back to sleep. Why, because I am fighting with myself for the things that I want to do, against the things that I am obligated to do. This war of sorts is ever present; where to go to work tries to win over not to go to work. A vicious cycle played repeatedly. This infighting - in my case - is motivated by the fact that I could do bigger things in this life, but I am not doing them.
The time has come to inject a little side bar here. To my fellow columnist friend, "Fresh Face, Jennifer" I said, SCARED money cannot win! However, SCARRED money would be hard pressed to garner a victory as well! No matter, just the idea that you understand when engaged in poker combat the hero is usually the one who wasn't afraid to risk it all for the right reasons! Being broke is not a crime. I'll say it again, because maybe you weren't listening! Being broke, out of money, to the curb, tapped out, leaking, white around the mouth, is not the crime. The real crime is not going out and acquitting ourselves the best that we can, even if it yields a broke result. I have been down to all the money on earth many times, but the only times where I feel badly is when I have dribbled it off like a scared mouse. If you have to go, go gallantly just as you came in. Therefore, Jennifer I am glad that you applied the brave principles and recorded a victory from the depths of despair. Now my dear it is time to talk percentage compensation. Mail a stamped envelope to: My Hero, with your love offering! Smile.
