Travis Williams of Reading, PA triumphs at the main event of the Delaware Park Winter Poker Classic. The $1,090 buy in event attracted 213 participants and generated a prize pool over $200,000. The tournament field was loaded with professionals from all across the Mid Atlantic, including the 2011 and 2012 Delaware Park main event champions Alexander McQueen and Adam Cook.
McQueen, who was also the runner up in the 2012 survived until day 2 but like Cook could never get much traction and wound up on the rail, paving the way for a new champion to be crowned. Williams, who is a familiar face around Delaware Park, had the look of a champion throughout the event. Travis’ signature checkered patterned arrangement of chips seemed to only get taller as the final table played out. Williams wasn’t afraid to take some risk. With 6 players remaining in the event, Travis who was 2nd in chips at the time went to war with then chip leader Wesley Ismay. With a flush and straight draw Travis got all of his chips in the middle. When the river card completed Travis’ flush draw, he all but solidified his position as the dominant force at the final table. When the heads up battle between Williams and Kyle Bowker of Walton, NY began, Williams had a 3:1 chip lead. Williams took advantage of his overwhelming advantage, whittling Bowker to less than 1million in chips. Kyle chose to make his stand with Kh 6h. Unfortunately, Travis looked down and saw 2 black aces. Kyle’s hand never improved and Travis Williams was crowned the 2013 Delaware Park Winter Poker Classic Main Event Champion taking home $49,581.
