Accomplished poker pro Vanessa Selbst defeated a formidable final table to win the North American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun main event. Beating 715 entrants in the competition led to her biggest payday yet at $750,000.
Selbst played superbly throughout the tournament and knocked out three of her opponents at the final table to become the first female champion of an NAPT event. This win boosted her career earnings to $1,672,855.
With overwhelming chip leads going into the final table, the smart money was on Mike Beasley and Vanessa Selbst facing off in a heads-up duel as the final table was whittled down. When Selbst moved in on Michael Woods and sent him packing after taking down $240,000 for his third-place finish, she held a massive six-to-one chip advantage as she made ready to face Mike Beasley for the championship.
It didn't last long. Selbst busted Beasley, who took home a second placing prize of $428,000, in only seven hands.
The Montclair, New Jersey resident now has 18 cashes that include three final tables and two heads-up semi-finals at the World Series of Poker and she won the 2008 World Series of Poker $1,500 pot-limit Omaha event.
