The Wynn Classic began in high style when Erik Nomberg, of Dix Hills, NY, defeated Joshua Herman of hornhill Ontario to capture first place money of $48,563.
If the top four finishers were any indication, this event attracted players from far and wide. Maybe the nasty winter weather had something to do with it, or perhaps it's the Wynn's unique ambiance. It might even be a combination of both. Nomberg, who won it, is from New York State. Herman, the runner up, hails from Ontario, Canada. Third place finisher Jon Lactaoen came all the way from Honolulu, and fourth place finisher Tommy Vu is from Seattle.
Three local Las Vegas players finished in the top ten-Michael Noda and Bud Calabrese finished fifth and six, respectively and Rob Gittleman finished ninth-but that list also included seventh place finisher Ted McNeely from Oregon, eighth place finisher Tom Drivas from Illinois, and the tenth place finisher, Wade Woefel came from Minnesota.
Early results from this 18-event tournament series follow and results from subsequent tourneys will appear next time, including the Wynn Classic's $5,000 buy-in, three-day, no-limit hold 'em main event.
